I disagree with this woman
vehemently but she has a right to express her opinion and do it at the public
library so long as she is not inciting a riot or causing damages to the A queen was born on 01st August happy birthday to me shirt. I used this same argument in support of Drag Queen Story Hour in
Alabama and out remains true in this circumstance as well. Libraries are not
social justice battlegrounds. Mm. This is a tough convergence of civil rights
movements. Discernment and compassion are needed.
A public library does not have the
right or obligation to censor the content of the groups that utilize their
public spaces. Libraries do not seek out speakers or performers, they are
merely available to any member of the public that wants to use the space.
