In 1945 during the Battle of Okinawa
is was shelled by the US Navy battleship USS Mississippi for three days. It was
part of the infamous Shuri line, the last defensive stand of the Japanese Army

multi-billion corporations in the hands of marketing people who have very low
knowledge about history, politics, geography, etc. This kind of publicity stunt
gone wrong happens dozens of times every year, what changed is that some people
are just fed up with it and won´t just turn off the tele or change the channel.
The Japanese are rather good at
rebuilding these structures, and they retain the skilled craftsmen to do so.
Having said that, it is a great shame, and there may well be unique artifacts
that cannot be replaced. A cultural disaster but it could be rebuilt/reborn.
